Light, Shadow, Night and Twilight

5-day full time workshop with David H. Wells in Helsinki - June 11th to 15th – Registration by May 10th, 2012

Light is the most important element in photography. Photography IS light. Understanding the nature of light and its characteristics as well as learning how to control it, determines how our photographs turn out.
Join award-winning photographer David H. Wells for a totally unique experience in the beautiful city of Helsinki with its great architecture and magic summer light.
This will be an intense shooting/lecture workshop with extensive visuals to introduce this important and essential approach to using available light; it is designed for beginner and intermediate photographers who want to master the use of natural light and its triple nature: color, direction and quality. We’ll be out shooting together every morning and late afternoon, occasionally at night. Every day David will work one-on-one with each participant, in the field and before class, looking at their work and helping them determine and achieve their photographic goals. The class will meet daily between photographing sessions for discussions, lectures and demonstrations, which will cover several topics:
• time of day / morning vs. evening light
• quality and direction of light
• scouting a location with a compass to plot the play of light
• the importance of the photographer’s position
• twilight and night photography
• the use of lines, light and dark
• lens choice / composition
• framing to create dramatic images when no dramatic light exists

Don’t miss this chance. Southern Finland is an amazing place for photographers in June. The sun shines for most of the day and when, late in the evening, it’s near the horizon and preparing to set, you will have many opportunities to shoot in a light that is like nowhere else on earth: the light is softer and warmer,  the shadows are longer and delicate for many, long golden hours.
The workshop starts on Sunday evening (June 10th) with a dinner introduction and presentation of the program and will end on Friday night (June 15th) with a closing dinner. Minimun N. of participants: 6 – Max 12

Tuition Price: €1650 LATEST NEWS: if you sign up today you get a 10% discount on the original fee. The New Tuition Fee is € 1485 (includes tuition, and both introductory and closing dinners). You have time till May 10th.

If you sign up for the 5-day workshop plus either one or the other 1-day workshop held by David, you get an additional € 50 discount. If you sign up for all 3 events, you get an additional € 75 discount. The additional discounts will be awarded when buying the other workshops.
